One of the main female characters in the Date A Live series and the first Spirit Shido saved was Tohka Yatogami. Tenka, a different personality that only manifests when she assumes her Inverse Form, also lives inside of her. In the Japanese and English versions of the anime, she is voiced by Marina Inoue and Michelle Rojas, respectively.

Appearance: Tohka Yatogami

Tohka is a young woman with dark purple hair and pupils that are pink and pale yellow on the bottom and dark blue on the top. She is a “impossibly beautiful girl,” according to Shido. She was dressed in a black, cream, and pink dress when she arrived on Earth, and her shoulders and waist were encrusted with a set of purple-and-cream plated armour. The back of the dress is open, and it is constructed of a black corset that partially reveals her cleavage and a two-layered, knee-length skirt with a pink-to-white gradient.

Her hair is pulled back with the aid of a butterfly-shaped hairpiece. She additionally dons a set of armoured boots and a pair of gauntlets with petal-like cuffs that match the colour scheme of the rest of her outfit. She wears the Raizen High School uniform after being accepted, though she still sports the dress-like skirt she wore when she first arrived.

Personality: Tohka Yatogami

Tohka had a chilly, emotionless demeanour when she first showed up on Earth after being sealed. She was wary of people because she had been repeatedly attacked by the AST before Shido had the chance to speak with her. After meeting Shido and deciding to go on a date with him, this began to change. However, after thinking Shido had died, she became convinced that no one would ever accept her and made an attempt to destroy the world. Luckily, Shido saved the day and sealed her powers, allowing her to live fearlessly and experience life on Earth.

Tohka has a very happy and childlike personality and is very emotional, naive, energetic, and gullible because she is new to everything (including her emotions). She was incredibly ecstatic to see everything she had never seen before on Earth. She frequently exhibits a voracious appetite and ate an abundance of food on their first date. Several times, Origami has turned her naivete against her. She frequently needs one of her friends—most frequently Shido—to alert her when she is being duped. Tohka is a very friendly and kind-hearted girl who gets along with almost everyone, Origami being the only exception; however, this is largely Origami’s fault due to her biassed racism towards Spirits. Tohka may be naive, or perhaps she is because of it.

Powers and Abilities

Tohka is a very strong Spirit and an expert fighter in both her Spirit Form and Inverse Form, as stated by Mio herself. Along with gaining some of Mio’s skills, Tohka was able to combine both of her forms to produce a wholly new form that was exclusively hers after obtaining the Sephira Crystal from her.

Spirit Form: Tohka is a fiercely aggressive fighter who favours the sword as her main weapon. In addition, Tohka’s Spirit body is filled with a lot of “mana,” which enhances both her offensive and defensive skills. She has the ability to surround herself with a strong barrier, fire energy blasts from her hands or fingertips, and swish her arm quickly to produce shockwaves. Her main weapon is Sandalphon, which has the appearance of a gilded throne and serves as her broadsword’s scabbard. Tohka typically uses her sword in conjunction with powerful, quick physical attacks that are covered in “mana” or high energy attacks (like laser beams).

Inverse Form : Tohka changes into her Inverse form, which Wescott claims is her true form in the bordering dimension from which she originates, as a result of prolonged exposure to unpleasant emotions when Shido was about to be killed. Overall, Tohka’s abilities in this form are identical to those of her Spirit form. Additionally, she acquires Nehemah, a more sinister variation of Sandalphon, and her Astral Dress changes to one that is much sexier and darker. With no control over her body, Tohka attacks anything and everyone in her line of sight in this form. She also appears to develop an immunity to attacks made against her as she survived an attack made by Ellen at point blank range while in this form.
