Nick’s Comedy Stop

Nick’s Comedy Stop has been around since 1977, and several of its regulars have gone on to become regional, and even national celebrities, thanks to their comedy shows in Boston. While there is no food available, there is a full bar and no drink minimum, so you can have a good time without worrying about the bill. The venue is also available for private business gatherings and bachelor/ette parties for individuals who want to do something different than the typical pub crawl.

The Wilbur Theatre

Built in 1914, the Wilbur is an example of Federal Revival architecture. Although it lacks the flamboyance of some of its Theatre District neighbors, the building’s design is meant to pay tribute to Boston’s history as an artistic hub by emulating a Beacon Hill palace. The Wilbur is a big, much-loved entertainment facility for the city, although it now mostly presents national comedy and popular music artists and no longer ranks as the top spot for flashy theatrical performances.

Improv Asylum

Improv Asylum in Boston’s North End has been a popular venue for improv and sketch comedy shows in Boston for over twenty years. Classes for promising local artists are also offered, as are bespoke performances and corporate apprenticeship programs. Shows are normally available seven nights a week, with the most selection on Fridays and Saturdays. Midnight programs on the weekends often include more adult-oriented content.

The Rozzie Square Theater

Located in the same Roslindale theater, is the proficient improv company Improv Jones, as well as the accolade-winning, competitive ComedySportz Boston, which tours 31 cities throughout the United States and Europe. The theater features a broad variety of late-night improv, stand-up, sketch, and dramatic acts every Saturday night starting at 10 o’clock, in addition to its comprehensive education and community programs. If you want to know the most up-to-date information on when the events will occur, you can look at the website.

The Comedy Studio

The Comedy Studio moved from its former location in Harvard Square to Union Square in Somerville in 2018. The Comedy Studio is a prominent, locally owned club that features improv and stand-up comedy from amateurs and professionals. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, Rick Jenkins brings some of the best stand-up comics in the country to Vera’s for a live performance.

The Rockwell

This theater, formerly known as The Davis Square Theatre and Jimmy Tingle’s Off-Broadway comedy club, presents a wide range of acts every day of the week, including sketches, stand-up, burlesque, variety, and even plays geared toward children. Regularly, you may see a performance of Shit-faced Shakespeare, a spoof of Shakespeare’s works performed by actors dressed in period costumes who use nothing but the most blatant innuendo and potty humor to mock Bard’s writings. Although the pub does not offer food, it can combine supper and a performance at the neighboring Saloon.
