Aaron Taylor is one of those actors who has a lot going on in his career at any given moment. We recently spoke with Aaron Taylor-Johnson about his upcoming film ‘Bullet Train’ and working with Sam Reid on the short film ‘The Lemonade Stand.’ With an acting career spanning nearly 15 years, Aaron is no stranger to the world stage and has had great performances.
Early life and Education
Aaron Taylor Johnson was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, to a family of three boys. He is the son of Sarah (née Ford) and Anthony Johnson, a dealer of motor vehicles. His maternal grandparents were from Liverpool. He was raised in his father’s Jewish religion but does not follow any religion now.
He began acting at the age of six and studied at the Drama Centre London for three years before getting a role on stage in ‘The Merchant of Venice’ at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre when he was 12. He made his screen debut when he appeared in the television film ‘The Thief Lord’ with Christian Bale and Asa Butterfield playing his father. After appearing as an extra in another film called ‘Alfie,’ he got his first lead role as John Connor alongside Nick Stahl and Moon Bloodgood in ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ which lasted for only one season on FOX due to low ratings. Aaron Taylor-Johnson played James Westley/Hawkeye Pierce alongside Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep in the Walt Disney Pictures adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel ‘Little Women,’ which also starred Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, and Kate Beckinsale.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson played John Lennon alongside Anne Hathaway as Yoko Ono in ‘Nowhere Boy’ about the early years of John Lennon’s life. He also starred in ‘Kick-Ass’ as Dave Lizewski and ‘The Illusionist’ with Edward Norton. he played a young man named Marcus in the British drama film ‘The King’s Speech’ directed by Tom Hooper who won Best Picture at the Academy Awards and Best Actor for Colin Firth.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson was cast as Quicksilver in the superhero film ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ released with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Scarlett Johansson reprising their roles from previous films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also starred in ‘No Escape’ alongside Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, and Pierce Brosnan, an American action thriller film directed by John Erick Dowdle released. It was filmed in Thailand with Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing an American man who moves his family to Southeast Asia when a coup occurs. Still, they are trapped inside a house by local rebels who want to kill them for witnessing one of their murders.
Bullet Train’ and the importance of diversity in film
Regarding achieving diversity in film, Johnson stressed that it’s all about the opportunity. “I think it comes down to opportunity. I think if you create opportunities for people and a platform for people, and if you’re open-minded, they’ll come in. It’s just a case of creating that.” He went on to clarify that it’s not just about race or gender but that it’s about all underrepresented groups. “It’s not just ethnicity. It’s sexuality, gender, disability, everything.”
Upcoming film: ‘Bullet Train’
Bullet Train follows a young man accused of a crime he didn’t commit. While on the run, he ends up meeting a group of people who help him stay one step ahead of the government agents pursuing him. Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the lead character in the film alongside actresses Hidetoshi Nishijima, Tao Okamoto, and Akane Hotaru. Bullet Train’ is set to open in theaters.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson is an actor who seems to have a lot of projects in the works right now.
