Are you looking for somewhere completely different to visit? Fortunately, there are places all over the world that are unique and special. Here are five unique places you should visit.
Muskoka, Canada
For a perfect family vacation, rent a cottage on Lake Muskoka in Northern Ontario. This region of lakes is a lot of fun, because you get around by boat. Stay in a cottage and visit the grocery store, shops and restaurants all by boat.
There are also great hikes in the region, as well as fishing and skiing. What activities you decide on are largely based on the time of year you visit. In the winter, the lake freezes and it’s a great time for snowmobiles and skiing. In the summer, enjoy fishing and golf at one of the local courses.
The Greek Islands
Islands like Santorini and Mykonos are some of the most special places in the world to visit. If you’re looking for a good way to visit multiple islands easily, try Greek island cruises. It’s so convenient to only have to unpack once and get to explore multiple destinations.
No matter how you get there, spend some time exploring and luxuriating in island life. There’s so much that’s unique in this area. The island of Delos is uninhabited and known to be the birthplace of the Greek gods.
The food and wine are rich in Greece as well. Desserts are often honey-based, so look forward to eating plenty of baklava and similar treats. Foods like spanakopita make up main courses. Wine is rich, flavorful and a delight.
The Wild West
If you’re looking for something completely different, consider a trip to West Texas. Big Bend National Park is not as frequented as many of the other national parks and that makes it a spectacular place to spend some time. Big Bend sits on the Texas border with Mexico. You can even cross into Mexico in the park.
Big Bend offers hikes and climbs for all levels of skill and in many terrains. Visit the Chisos Mountains or contend with the Chihuahuan Desert. There are more than 150 miles of trails to explore. It is rustic though! You won’t have cell phone service or access to water, so be sure you’re prepared! This terrain will truly make you feel like you’re starring in a John Wayne film.
Big Bend is located just outside the city of Alpine, the ghost town, Terlingua, and the artistic hub, Marfa. Visit all three to really get a feel for the area. Marfa especially shouldn’t be missed, with a unique culture of art that has been heavily influenced by the desert.
Paris, France
If the west isn’t for you, a trip to Paris might be just what you’re looking for. The City of Lights is paved with beauty and romance. Full of art, culture and history, Paris is a place to spend time exploring. Take the time to visit the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. Then, stroll the Seine and sip a cup of coffee while taking in the view from Montmartre.
Of course, the food is some of the best in the world. The bread and baked goods are incredible. The coffee and wine are rich and delicious as well. Have a cup of either while people-watching at a sidewalk cafe.
Visit the Land Down Under
For a completely different type of beauty, take a trip to Australia. Australia is so unique and a real chance for adventure. There’s much to do,  like visiting wineries in Coonawarra, and the country is very different by region. It can be tough to get from region to region as well.
Perth is especially unique as it sits on the western side of the country, far away from the other big cities, like Sydney. For this reason, Perth has developed a unique culture that will make you want to stay. The city also has year-round perfect weather and access to great beaches.
There are so many unique places in the world! Take the time to visit some of them.
